Three orphaned sisters, their rather extraordinary aunt, and four marriages of convenience! The first book in my new Penniless Brides of Convenience  quartet, The Earl’s Countess of Convenience,  is out now in print and digital, in the UK, US and Canada.

I’m the eldest of four sisters, and two of them are identical twins. I like to sew (you can read a bit more about my sewing and Eloise’s here). I’m a bit bossy. But there the similarities between me and Eloise, the eldest of the Brannagh sisters and the heroine of this first book end. Eloise is a practical gal who has had to take responsibility for her younger sisters from a tender age. She’s a real mother hen with an over-developed sense of duty, so when she gets the opportunity to marry a complete stranger who will recompense her generously if she’ll be his wife in name only, she jumps at the chance because it means she’ll be able to take financial care of her sisters’ future as well as her own. Enter Alexander, a man with his own suitcase full of issues, and one, contrary to the sisters’ expectations, who has all his own teeth, and bathes regularly. In fact Alexander turns out to be rather gorgeous, and Eloise, to her astonishment, rather fancies him. Problem is, that’s against the rules!

This is a slow burn of a romance between two practical, honourable and dutiful people who until they meet, have always put everyone else first. Alexander and Eloise have to work hard for their happy ever after (and it cost me a few sleepless nights too). I leave it up to you to decide whether you think they’ve earned it.

I’m celebrating my new release with a giveaway. First prize will be a choice of either a tea or coffee cosy made by my own fair hands. The cosies fit most sizes of tea and coffee pots, small to quite large and will be similar to the ones in this picture, that I made at Christmas.

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED

The first prize winner will also get a signed print copy of the book, and two runners up will get a digital copy.

To enter, all you have to do is tell me, who would you choose to be your perfect fictional big sister?

I will announce the winners here on Wednesday 8th May. Good luck.

  1. Hello Marguerite and good luck for the release.
As an imaginary little sister I don’t know who to choose. I am already a big sister and I have a sister who made me very angry when she was little. 😀

    1. I think the purpose of little sisters is to make big sisters angry! But as we get older we realise how lucky we are to have each other. Well that’s my theory and it mostly works!

  2. Well, Jo, of course! I haven’t read ‘Little Women’ in decades, but the second eldest March sister was always my favourite fictional character. Having said that, I have an incredible, amazing older sister who is my real-life role model. (And if I win the tea cosy, iI’ll be giving it to her wrapped up in ribbon and bows!)

    1. I loved Jo, she was my favourite too – even though I’ve read the book countless times and watched almost every version of the film I still cry when she sells her hair.

  3. I’d love Elizabeth Bennet as my big sister. She would put you in your place but also protect you fearlsly. X Good luck with the release xx

  4. I would like Elizabeth Bennet as my big sister she would put you in your place and also protect you fearlesly. Good luck with the releasw. X

  5. My first thought is Katniss from the Hunger Games! She is such a wonderful big sister to Primrose and would do anything to protect her and their family.

  6. I would love Mary from LIttle House on the Prairie to be my big sister. I didn’t get to meet my sister until I was a teenage so I used to imagine her to be as lovely as Mary. I am happy to say that my real sister is everything and more. I am very lucky.

    1. How lovely that you and your sister have each other now AnnMarie, there sounds like there’s a hugely emotional story behind that. My twin sisters absolutely adored Little House on the Prairie, and used to spend hours running down the hill behind our house re-enacting the opening titles

  7. I think I would choose Anne of Green Gables to be my older sister – even though she was an Orphan herself. And Jo from Little Woman also came to mind. But Anne (with an “E”) has always been my top favorite series of books.

    1. I have never read those books but I loved the TV series. I didn’t want her as my older siste, I wanted to be her! But that’s becuase I’m an older sister and a bit of a control freak!

  8. Katy from What Katy Did and sourpuss Mary Lennox from Secret Garden…(but also a Jo and Anne fan!)

    1. So many of my favourite books being mentioned. I adored the Secret Garden and it’s still one of my dreams, to have a walled garden of my own. In fact I’ve written two separate walled gardens into my current PENNILESS BRIDES OF CONVENIENCE series
